Ubuntu 9.10: It Still Fucking Sucks

I have taken it upon myself to try the lastest version of Ubuntu. Notable changes include the eyecandy when you boot up and login, and this feature called Ubuntu One that I'll get into shortly. There are very few improvements in this release and it makes me wonder why they bothered at all, rather than just releasing this as an update. Oh, they also rearranged some of the games, by adding a menu for logic games.

Ubuntu One is a new feature to Ubuntu, and personally I think it is terrible. Apparently, the first time when you run it, it configures authentication. However, it doesn't do that for me, it doesn't do anything. Thus, the one new feature in Ubuntu 9.10 doesn't even work. There was no information about such a bug on the Ubuntu website. The people in IRC are not very helpful either.

Actually, I nearly forgot the other new feature. An instant messenger called empathy has been included, alongside pidgin. Obviously nobody needs a second instant messenger when both support every protocol known to man.

This release has only two major features and one is completely useless and the other entirely redundant. Ubuntu 9.10 is nothing more than masturbation. It really is the most pointless version bump I've ever seen.

It makes me wonder wether

It makes me wonder wether there is any good desktop distribution.

Linux Mint: Ubuntu with all kinds of added eye-candy and stuff like DivX and Skype that Ubuntu is too affraid to install.

Sabayon: Based on Gentoo, so it should be fast. I couldn't install it because my 10 GB test hard drive was too small. It comes on a full DVD, which installs all kinds of crap I don't need.

Hymera: Seems promising. Based on Debian, so it should be fast, like Ubuntu once was. However, it's made by Italians, so they must have fucked up something. I have yet to try it.
